The Syrian Newcomer Project

The Syrian Newcomer Project

The Syrian Newcomer Project is a unique and exciting Project have empowered more than 500 Syrian Newcomers to rebuild their lives in Canada through skills trianing and acquiring certifications and licenses to practice selected occupations in Ontario. These skills trainings will be provided in parallel with other supports provided to Syrian Newcomers such as connecting them with employment supports, language programs, educational opportunities, professional networks and community connections. The Project involved a mentorship component and will offer financial literacy support to promote socio-economic inclusion an dlong term financial security.  This initiative started in 2016 to respond to the wave of Syrian refugee arrival in Toronto.  It was initially funded by United Way Toronto and York Region.  Other individual donors pitched in upon knowing the value and benefit of the Project in empowering Syrian refugees to start their lives in Canada.
