COMMUNITY SERVICES | Working with Scarborough residents to build strong and healthy communities

A Recipe for (Climate) Change

With the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, multiple agencies within North Scarborough collaborated to create a project addressing this global issue while focusing on reducing social isolation present within their communities. The Recipe for (Climate) Change project engaged local youth and isolated seniors to build intergenerational connections, share skills to grow and preserve food, and create meaningful relationships while empowering the community to act on local climate change.

Via Zoom sessions, Scarborough-based seniors shared their insights on food literacy, their personal food histories, sustainable/affordable growing, cooking, and preserving of culturally diverse foods. The youth in the community compiled and edited videos of the recipes shared by the seniors, and have created a community cookbook to share this knowledge within the greater Scarborough area.

“A Recipe for (Climate) Change”, was featured in Get Growing Toronto’s October Issue.
