ACSA is a non-profit, multi service agency addressing needs and empowering children, youth, newcomers, homeless, and otherwise underserved communities. Our core programs include housing and outreach programs, food security programs, newcomer services, youth outreach and therapy programs, child and family programs, early years’ programs, computer access programs, and community engagement.


Summary of Job


Reporting to the Youth Violence Prevention Coordinator, the Mentor will provide intensive support to youth, residing in Steeles L’Amoreaux, by actively engaging youth in counselling while building trust and linking them to appropriate community resources and programming. The Mentor will further support youth development through ongoing life skill workshops.

The project is focused on youth ages 12-24 who are at risk of, or are currently involved, in gang/violence related activities or anti-social behaviours.

In addition, the Mentor will work closely with partner organizations, TDSB, Toronto Community Housing, Toronto Police Services, and City of Toronto Crisis Response, probation services and relevant court diversion programs and key community leaders to ensure the effective implementation of the project.


Duties include:

  • Provide intensive one – to –one case management support to a total of 18-20 for PT
  • Create and administer individual case plans with each assigned youth
  • Develop and implement effective youth engagement strategies
  • Develop avenues to appropriate services and supports including facilitating referrals
  • Work collaboratively with the ACSA team and partner agencies to ensure the sound implementation and adherence to the program model
  • Maintain records and files and provide information in accordance with ACSA policies and information sharing protocols
  • Participate in case management with Supervisor;
  • Collaborate with team members regularly
  • Facilitate and support ongoing workshops for youth participants in Steeles L’Amoreaux including Chester Le, Bay Mills and Glendower.
  • Support and foster meaningful partnerships with a broad range of community stakeholders, including schools, police services, youth justice services and the courts to coordinate processes for referring youth to the project
  • Attend workshops, meetings and conferences and participate in relevant training opportunities as required
  • In collaboration with the YVP Coordinator identify appropriate off-site locations for staff to connect with youth, conduct meetings etc., in various communities.
  • Implement communication tools/strategies to ensure effective and timely communication between community agencies, residents and other community stakeholders
  • Ensure administrative duties are complete and database is kept up to date, reflecting the current caseload of youth
  • Perform the responsibilities of the position within the legislative and regulatory standards set out in the applicable Acts. Performs the responsibilities of the position consistent with the policies of ACSA



  • Degree or College Diploma in a related field such as Child and Youth Worker, Social Service Worker, or other related fields
  • Proven minimum 3 years’ experience providing case management support and/or delivering programs with at risk youth
  • Demonstrated knowledge of programs and services currently available to youth, parents and the broader communities of Scarborough
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience working in Steeles L’Amoreaux communities, specifically the communities of Bay Mills, Chester Le and Glendower
  • Demonstrated experience with traditional and non-traditional outreach activities and strategies
  • Experience and sensitivity working with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the experiences, issues and needs of at risk youth normally acquired through lived or work experience
  • Knowledge and experience working with trauma, loss and grief and counselling
  • Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with youth, their families, community partners, staff and volunteers;
  • Strong and demonstrated ability to form relationships with marginalized individuals while maintaining strong boundaries
  • Mental Health First Aid and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Certification an asset
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and video conferencing
  • Flexibility regarding assigned work schedule, including days, evenings, weekends
  • Experience working from an anti-racist/ anti-oppression framework
  • Valid Police Records Check
  • Valid First Aid, CPR, and G-class driver’s license with access to a working vehicle daily are assets
  • Crisis intervention training (CPI, NVCI, TCI) considered an asset.
