1 year full time contract with possibility of renewal

35 hours per week, including evenings and some Saturdays

Full benefits after 6 months’ probation

Background

ACSA is a nonprofit, multi service agency addressing needs and empowering children, youth, newcomers, homeless, and otherwise underserved communities.  Our core programs include housing and outreach programs, food security programs, newcomer services, youth outreach and therapy programs, child and family programs, early years’ programs, computer access programs, and community engagement.

 

Summary of Job Functions

ACSA is currently seeking a RECE Program Facilitator who will be reporting to the Manager of Child and Family Services. The ideal candidate has an ECE background, extensive experience working with children and caregivers to implement early learning activities in indoor and outdoor settings.  Candidate will plan and lead the program and receive direction from the program coordinator and will also contribute to the operation of daily children’s programs within the policies and procedures of the agency.

 

Duties include:

  • Ensure a caring, stimulating and inclusive environment for the children and families attending the program
  • Strong program planning and implementation skills
  • Ensure accurate program and client registrations are maintained, in confidentiality of all information while keeping accurate statistics and daily attendance records on monthly basics and reports to Program Coordinator on monthly basics   
  • Ensure information boards at the centre are changed on timely matter and are up to date (flyers, calendar, notices, etc.)
  • Maintain program site to ensure that health and safety of the environment and equipment be responsible for the safe storage of equipment, toys, maintaining that all equipment is in good working order prior/after usage                
  • Must have good written and oral communication skills in English (ability to communicate in another language is an asset)
  • Must develop professional rapports and work relationships with parents/caregivers, colleagues and service providers of diverse backgrounds, abilities and identities
  • May travel between satellite locations and work flexible hours including evenings or weekend and open and close Centre with minimal supervision
  • Supervise students/volunteers during program time
  • Perform other such duties as may be assigned.

 

EDUCATION:

Early Childhood Education degree/ diploma and a member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (Registered Early Childhood Educator or RECE).

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with young children (0-6 years)
  • Proven experience in panning, developing and implementing inclusive quality play-based and early years programming for children birth to 6 years of age.
  • Experience in accessing community resources and making referrals
  • Experience working in a diverse environment
  • Training and/or experience facilitating family workshops is an asset
  • Knowledge and experience with Emergent Curriculum, Elect and How Does Learning Happen
  • Knowledge of available community resources
  • A police criminal reference/vulnerable sector check clearance, Standard First Aid with infant and preschool CPR, and up-to-date immunizations are required and 2 step TB Test
  • Second Language is an asset (Mandarin, Cantonese)
  • Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation is an asset.

 

 

Work Conditions

  • Must be able to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year-round; may be exposed to heat, humidity or cold
  • Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, bending, kneeling, crouching or crawling, lifting 20 kg (44 lbs.), and supporting children
  • Interact with children, youth, family members, stakeholders, administration, staff and visitors.
  • Manual dexterity required to work in remote areas and satellite locations
  • Will be required to attend meetings and/or trainings at various affiliated sites.
