35 hours per week, including evenings and some Saturdays

Full benefits after 6 months’ probation

Background

ACSA is a nonprofit, multi service agency addressing needs and empowering children, youth, newcomers, homeless, and otherwise underserved communities.  Our core programs include housing and outreach programs, food security programs, newcomer services, youth outreach and therapy programs, child and family programs, early years’ programs, computer access programs, and community engagement.

 

Summary of Job Functions

ACSA is currently seeking a Parent Support and Training Specialist.  The candidate will report to the Manager of Child and Family Services While receiving direction from the program coordinator and will also contribute to the operation of daily children’s programs within the policies and procedures of the agency.  The successful candidate will develop relationships with families and their young children while focusing in facilitating parent/staffs training and working with community partners and support referral service based on each individual need.  Parent Support and Training Specialist must have a solid understanding of Play and Inquiry based learning and "How Does Learning Happen?", the basis for program planning, implementation and parent engagement. Also the successful candidate should demonstrate knowledge of Toronto’s (specifically Scarborough) community services and agencies, essential for information and referral process to community families.

 

Duties include:

  • Deliver programs to meet identified KPI/Outcomes of the program requirement
  • Plan for and implement an inquiry based emergent curriculum/training materials based on caregiver and children’s individual interests and needs to staff and caregivers
  • Use observation and documentation to plan programs and share knowledge of inquiry based learning to engage parents and caregivers and staff.
  • Offer appropriate strategies and workshops that support families in managing their child’s behavior and developmental domains
  • Develop internal training to support team based on observations and analysis of the needs in children’s developmental modules
  • Identify opportunities to promote additional resources through handouts, making the appropriate referrals, participant follow up and maintain accurate records for data collection
  • Ensure the health and safety of participants during service delivery
  • Maintain program site to ensure that health and safety of the environment and equipment be responsible for the safe storage of equipment, maintaining that all equipment is in good working order prior/after usage.
  • Demonstrate a willingness and ability for continuous professional development
  • Prepare  monthly, quarterly, mid-year and annual narrative reports to be submitted to the program coordinator
  • Report on a regular basis to program coordinator regarding issues of need and/or concern and offer suggestions to ensure excellence of self, team and programs.
  • Respond to individual needs of participants while maintaining confidentiality
  • Effectively perform job duties with minimum supervision and travel between satellite locations and ability to work flexible hours including evenings or Saturday
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree or Diploma in Early Childhood Education (RECE)
  • Minimum of 2 years in a leadership role
  • Certificate in Adult Education or similar qualification
  • Expert skill in design and delivery of training/education programs for different audiences
  • Strong computer skills in MS Excel and PowerPoint
  • Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation required
  • A good understanding and high regard for Health and Safety
  • Ability to ‘multi-task’ and prioritize work in a time sensitive environment
  • A strong commitment to customer service
  • Must have good written and oral communication skills in English (ability to communicate in another language is an asset)
  • A good understanding of trending data best practice implementation
  • A police criminal reference/vulnerable sector check clearance, Standard First Aid with infant and preschool CPR, and up-to-date immunizations are required and 2 step TB Test
  • High Five certification is an asset.

 

 

 

 

Work Conditions

  • Must be able to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year-round; may be exposed to heat, humidity or cold
  • Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, bending, kneeling, crouching or crawling, lifting 20 kg (44 lbs.), and supporting children
  • Interact with children, youth, family members, stakeholders, administration, staff and visitors.
  • Manual dexterity required to work in remote areas and satellite locations
  • Will be required to attend meetings and/or trainings at various affiliated sites.
