Part Time position: 14-28 hours a week

The North Scarborough Vaccine Engagement team is comprised of a consortium of organizations that have been funded by the City of Toronto to create a vaccine engagement team in North Scarborough.


Working together and with the City of Toronto, the team will aim to ensure the COVID-19 vaccination program:

  • Prioritizes targeted equity engagement and mobilization actions
  • Implements immunization mobilization plans for specific communities that are most affected by COVID-19
  • Amplifies City messaging about the safety of vaccines and the benefits to the individuals and communities
  • Is agile- to allow for responsiveness and quick pivots
  • Increases uptake of vaccinations


The NSVET has worked since March 2021 to actively engage communities with a targeted equity lens to ensure residents could access vaccine clinics without barriers. This work has included informing residents about vaccine clinics, information about COVID-19 vaccines, arranging transportation to clinics, hosting vaccine clinics to accommodate the needs of residents and other measures to remove barriers to vaccines and increase vaccine confidence and uptake.


Summary of Job Functions


Going forward, the work of NSVET is continuing to reach into communities using a targeted, data driven and equity approach through a neighbourhood-framework to connect with people who are not yet vaccinated to continue to share information about COVID-19 vaccines, to reduce hesitancy and hostility towards COVID-19 vaccines through community engagement and the sharing of credible information about the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines. To support us in this work, ACSA is looking for a lead Community Health Ambassador who can support with the coordination and engagement efforts in Northwest Scarborough (specifically, in the neighbourhoods of L’Amoreaux, Tam-O’Shanter and Steeles).



• Work closely with lead organization, Project Manager and other ambassadors to develop and implement an engagement strategy for Northwest Scarborough

• Provide up to date COVID-19 and vaccination information to the residents

• Conduct direct tenant/resident engagement in various buildings/areas, including door to door, tabling, etc.

• Provide regular face-to-face or virtual interactions or group info sessions with residents

• Refer community inquiries to appropriate community resources and services

• Provide navigation support to clients, including setting them up with vaccine clinic appointments

• Attending necessary meetings, completing reports and other duties as assigned. This includes attending a regular bi-weekly online ambassador meeting on Monday’s from 7:00pm-8:00pm

• Attend all training(s) and information sessions hosted by service providers and the City of Toronto

• Ensures that all communications and records be kept confidential and secure

• Based on engagement, report back on best practices, what works in community and turn these learning’s into new strategies and tactics that can be implemented

• Other duties as assigned by project leads


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Have a strong understanding and support for the goal of the project
  • Experience engaging racialized and marginalized communities including Black and South Asian communities
  • Knowledge of community engagement best practices, as well as understanding of equity issues being faced during the pandemic
  • Can work a minimum of 6 hours per week
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to work as instructed and trained and being able to be responsive to the diversity of perspectives in community
  • Ability to understand and respond to changing community needs
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity in working from an anti-oppression, LGBTQ+ positive framework
  • Ability to speak other languages an asset
  • Ability to travel within target neighbourhoods as required.
  • Ability to walk door-to-door with a team for 2-3 hours at a time
  • A successful clearance of a police vulnerable sector check
  • Protect own health and health of others by adopting safe work practices, reporting unsafe conditions immediately; follow all guidelines for employees and employers as legislated under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Performs the responsibilities of the position within the legislative and regulatory standards set out in the applicable Acts and consistent with the policies of ACSA
  • Participate in peer support activities.
