Background

ACSA is a nonprofit, multi service agency addressing needs and empowering children, youth, newcomers, homeless, and otherwise underserved communities.  Our core programs include housing and outreach programs, food security programs, newcomer services, youth outreach and therapy programs, child and family programs, early years’ programs, computer access programs, and community development and engagement.

 

Summary of Job Functions

ACSA is looking for a skilled and dynamic staff to oversee our community development portfolio. This is a diverse range of projects that engage diverse stakeholder groups (residents/community members, agency partners, etc.) to build strong neighbourhoods. Projects include 3 projects funded under United Way’s Building Strong Neighbourhoods Strategy, as well as supporting grassroots groups that are trusteed by the agency. 

 

Duties include:

  • Oversee community development initiatives that operate out of ACSA
  • Develop and implement community development strategies that help to strengthen the capacity of individuals and communities
  • Develop and oversee strategic partnerships that move community priorities and community development initiatives forward
  • Oversee, mentor and coach trustee projects held out of ACSA
  • Work with staff to assess and respond to trends related to community and resident needs
  • Oversee and strengthen network tables that bring resident and agency partners together to build stronger neighbourhoods
  • Provide supervision, performance evaluations and staff development opportunities for the reporting staff
  • Work with staff to ensure relevant data is input into the Agency’s database on a regular basis
  • Secure funding/resources to maintain ongoing operation of space, as well as resources to expand the services and initiatives in the community
  • In partnership with Volunteer and Outreach Co-ordinator recruit, train, place and evaluate volunteers, as they relate to community development projects
  • Develop and implement evaluation strategy of all programs and initiatives in the community initiatives portfolio
  • Represent ACSA on appropriate networks, workgroups and other relevant meetings
  • Liaison and build positive relationships with funders, community partners, governmental agencies and elected officials on various aspects of the work
  • Plan and manage the operational budget of related programs/projects
  • Provide written and oral reports to stakeholders, funding bodies and the community
  • Participate as a team member on the delivery of other activities in the Agency
  • Participate in ACSA and community events as needed
  • Protect own health and health of others by adopting safe work practices, reporting unsafe conditions immediately; follow all guidelines for employees and employers as legislated under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Participate in ACSA leadership and management meetings
  • Performs the responsibilities of the position within the legislative and regulatory standards set out in the applicable Acts and consistent with the policies of ACSA
  • Participate in peer support activities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Social Work or related field (i.e. Human Services, Health or Education)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in community based not-for-profit agencies
  • Minimum 3 years of experience coordinating community development activities in the similar settings
  • Excellent and demonstrated management and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated strong organizational, project planning and management abilities
  • Ability to balance and understand strategic and operational thinking
  • Experience working with diverse communities and sensitivity to cultural issues; commitment to the value of diversity and inclusiveness
  • Very strong organizational skills and time management skills
  • Excellent demonstrated facilitation skills
  • Ability to motivate others and build leadership development strategies
  • Strong communication skills: excellent writer, active listener and comfortable public speaker
  • Knowledge of program planning, implementation and evaluation strategies
  • Strong conflict mediation skills
  • Experience working with numerous stakeholders and developing long term partnerships
  • Strong writing skills and experience writing grants and proposals
  • Knowledge and experience with Chester Le community is an asset
  • Having a second language is an asset.
