Part-time position (14 hours per week)

Contract Start date: April 2021; Contract End date: December 2021, with possibility of extension

Reports to: Food Security and Engagement Coordinator

ACSA is a nonprofit, multi service agency addressing needs and empowering children, youth, newcomers, homeless, and otherwise underserved communities.  Our core programs include housing and outreach programs, food security programs, newcomer services, youth outreach and therapy programs, child and family programs, early years’ programs, computer access programs, and community engagement.


Summary of Job Functions

The Engagement and Administration Staff position will be based out of our Chester Le community where they will act as a reference point for Scarborough residents. The Administrative and Engagement Staff will provide support to clients, community members, staff and partners within the surrounding community. They will also provide information and referral to residents, communicate and support teams, while helping implement effective outreach programs or events. This is not a remote/virtual position, and priorities of the duties below will shift depending on Public Health guidelines and protocols.


Duties include:

  • Complete administration duties as required, assisting with directly connecting with community members;
  • Assist in engagement work within the Chester Le community, including conducting resident check-in emails, phone calls and outreach;
  • Connect with Chester Le residents to promote current ACSA programming, services and additional relevant community resources;
  • Develop and implement engagement initiatives out of the Chester Le space. (I.e. drop in time for residents, participating in food access initiatives, etc.);
  • Maintain regular communication with CLCC teams, including Youth Workers, Youth Violence Prevention team and Food Security team, assisting in engagement pieces when necessary;
  • Support registration and admin tasks pertaining to engagement programming and events;
  • Ensure community/staff adhere to COVID protocols within the space and organize self-assessments on a monthly basis;
  • Act as a first point of direct contact for residents entering the Chester Le space;
  • Maintain organization of reception area, program resources, supplies and community rooms;
  • Facilitate inter-agency referrals among all departments and partners by building relationships and interacting with staff;
  • Maintain regular communication regarding both internal and external activities;
  • Troubleshoot minor problems with the photocopier, printer, etc., follow preventative maintenance schedules and report any major problems to the Manager or designate;
  • Perform the responsibilities of the position consistent with the policies of ACSA;
  • Provide other services and carry out other duties as assigned;



  • Diploma in client services or administration plus at least one year or related experience (or equivalent combination)
  • Experience working in a social service environment
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the needs of a multicultural, multiracial community and Toronto Community Housing
  • Knowledge of Scarborough resources for residents
  • Crisis prevention and intervention (CPI) trained an asset
  • Second language an asset (preferably Mandarin, Arabic)
  • 1 year of administrative and/or community engagement experience
  • Experience working with seniors, youth and children
  • Exceptional customer services skills and ability to diffuse volatile situations
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure and in a busy environment
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
