ACSA is a nonprofit, multi service agency addressing needs and empowering children, youth, newcomers, homeless, and otherwise underserved communities.  Our core programs include housing and outreach programs, food security programs, newcomer services, youth outreach and therapy programs, child and family programs, early years’ programs, computer access programs, and community engagement.


Summary of Job Functions

ACSA is looking for a skilled and dynamic staff who recognizes the importance of community engagement and building capacity of agency and resident partners to build strong neighbourhoods. The focus of the staff will be in the area of safety and supporting agency and resident partners in implementation of a safety project in the neighbourhood of Dorset Park with a focus on developing a safety response strategy, a safety communication plan and an assessment of community access to safe community space.


Duties include:

  • Oversee the implementation of the Dorset Park Safety Initiative, as funded through United Way’s Our Strong Neighbourhood (OSN) grant.
  • Liaise and build relationships between residents, community service providers, stakeholders, elected officials and any party conducive to advancing this initiative. 
  • Support and conduct resident and agency partner engagement in Dorset Park with a focus on bringing people into the safety work in Dorset Park
  • Develop, implement and/or organize capacity building trainings that are needed to move the work forward
  • Supervise hired animator staff and/or students that are brought onto the project.
  • Support civic engagement initiative as they relate to the priority area of safety and to this project
  • Develop and implement evaluation strategy of the Our Strong Neighbourhood Initiative
  • Monitor budget and petty cash for the project
  • Report and proposal writing as required by the project and funder(s)
  • Represent ACSA on appropriate networks, workgroups and other relevant meetings
  • Liaison and build positive relationships with funders, community partners, governmental agencies and elected officials on various aspects of the work
  • Plan and manage the operational budget of related programs/projects
  • Provide written and oral reports to stakeholders, funding bodies and the community
  • Participate as a team member on the delivery of other activities in the Agency
  • Protect own health and health of others by adopting safe work practices, reporting unsafe conditions immediately; follow all guidelines for employees and employers as legislated under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Perform the responsibilities of the position within the legislative and regulatory standards set out in the applicable Acts and consistent with the policies of ACSA
  • Participate in peer support activities.



  • Degree in Social Work or related field (i.e. Human Services, Health or Education)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience coordinating community development activities in the similar settings
  • Demonstrated strong organizational, project planning and management abilities
  • Experience working with diverse communities and sensitivity to cultural issues; commitment to the value of diversity and inclusiveness
  • Very strong organizational skills and time management skills
  • Experiencing in partnership development, particularly in working with both residents and agency partners on collaborative initiatives
  • Excellent demonstrated facilitation skills
  • Ability to motivate others and build leadership development strategies
  • Strong communication skills: excellent writer, active listener and comfortable public speaker
  • Knowledge of program planning, implementation and evaluation strategies
  • Strong conflict mediation skills
  • Experience working with numerous stakeholders and developing long term partnerships
  • Strong writing skills and experience writing grants and proposals
  • Knowledge and experience with Dorset Park community is an asset
  • Having a second language is an asset.
