Background
ACSA is a nonprofit, multi service agency addressing needs and empowering children, youth, newcomers, homeless, and otherwise underserved communities. This time we are looking for mature, energetic and knowledgeable individuals to fill 1 Community Service Worker position.
Summary of Job Functions
ACSA is currently seeking a Community Service Worker for the ACSA Scarborough Drop-in South. The Drop-in Operations Worker will be responsible for assisting with the operation of a satellite drop-in located at Markham Rd and Eglinton Avenue East. Serving people who are homeless or marginally housed, the Drop-in provides basic needs services, housing help and programs that help low income people meet their needs and develop strategies to meet their goals. Working from an anti-oppression and anti-racism perspective, the Community Service Worker is responsible for assisting with the operation of a Drop-in serving a diverse community of homeless and marginalized people.
Duties include:
- Maintain a safe, welcoming community space and clean environment in all areas of the drop-in
- Provide support to the day-to-day operation of Drop-in
- Support the preparation of food, ensure daily washing, and disinfecting according to Toronto Public Health directives
- Support a variety of tasks including organizing and storing food, and direct service to drop-in clients
- Dismantle cardboard boxes and dispose of cardboard and garbage
- Organize, store, and track inventory of drop-in supplies including clothing, personal care items; ensure that program supplies are obtained for social and recreational programs
- Maintain a professional work atmosphere with a commitment towards a teamwork approach
- Collect and maintain statistics
- Maintain a clean and safe space; regular cleaning of kitchen
- Engage respectfully with community residents and program participants, providing information and referrals
- Work positively with community volunteers to accomplish tasks and goals
- Ensure accurate daily documentation
- Other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Sensitivity to the challenges of, and respect for, homeless and marginalized people
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ability to lift and move 25 pounds safely
- Safe food handling certificate an asset
- Good problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively and professionally under pressure
- Commitment to food security and relevant kitchen experience
- Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Strong skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Valid Ontario G-class driver’s license and clean drivers abstract is an asset
- Willingness and ability to be put on registration for agency vehicle and drive vehicle during shifts are assets
- CPI, First Aid and CPR certification are assets
- Valid Police Records Check.
