Community Service Worker - Food Security (Full-time)

Position Type: Contract 8 weeks, 35 hours a week

Pay rate: $14.80/hr

Agincourt Community Services Association (ACSA) is a multi service not-for-profit agency located in Scarborough. This summer, we are looking for mature, energetic, and knowledgeable individuals to fill 1 full-time Food Security Community Animator position.



  • Plan, supervise, and implement cooking/nutrition and food gardening activities targeted towards the Chester Le, Glendower, and Bay Mills communities.
  • Engage seniors, adults, and youth in Food Security program activities
  • Assist in the implementation of the Scarborough Cross-Generational Food Sustainability Project
  • Provide relevant food access resources and materials including information about other community food based initiatives and COVID-19 supports applicable towards resident interests
  • Conduct and support gardening/indoor growing workshops
  • Encourage leadership and involvement of residents, including community gardeners, through capacity building
  • Perform community outreach and engagement as needed
  • Lead and assist online workshops and educational sessions
  • Complete administrative duties as directed, including creating content for social media accounts and website
  • Perform other duties as directed


  • Must be between 15-30 years old
  • Must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
  • Knowledge of Scarborough community food resources, issues of relevance to newcomers, and low income families  and familiarity with diverse cultures an asset
  • Passionate about sustainability, food issues, and reducing food insecurity
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively alone and in a team environment
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Gardening experience (professional, volunteer, or hobby-related) is an asset
  • Cooking skills (professional, volunteer, or hobby-related) are an asset
  • Experience working with senior, adult, or youth populations would be an asset
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Chester Le, Glendower, and Bay Mills communities an asset
  • A valid driver’s licence and access to vehicle is an asset
  • Access to a computer and internet when working remotely is an asset
  • Second language an asset (preferably Arabic, Mandarin)
  • Available to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Current police reference check is mandatory
