35 hours per week, including weekends and some Saturdays

Background

ACSA is a nonprofit, multi service agency addressing needs and empowering children, youth, newcomers, homeless, and otherwise underserved communities.  Our core programs include housing and outreach programs, food security programs, newcomer services, youth outreach and therapy programs, child and family programs, early years’ programs, computer access programs, and community engagement.

 

Summary of Job Functions

ACSA is currently seeking a Child and Family Services Manager.  The candidate will contribute to the daily operations of ACSA’s children’s programs within the policies and procedures of the agency.  The successful candidate will develop relationships with families and their young children while focusing on staff training and development and working with community.  Child and Family Services Manager must have exceptional leadership and management skills. The candidate must have a good understanding of children programs (0-12 years) and knowledge of Toronto’s (specifically Scarborough) community services and agencies; essential for information and referral process to community families.

 

Duties include:

  • Leads and responsible for ACSA’s child and family programs at our main location as well as various satellite sites and other programs and services
  • Responsible for implementing  program planning materials and content, and ensure all programs are relevant to all ages of children according to grant guidelines
  • Supervision of large team of program staff, students and volunteers
  • Developing new programs to benefit the community, including funding proposals and program reports
  • Ensure smooth delivery of quality programs and continuous development of staff
  • Assist with hiring and managing staff performance
  • Assist with developing and facilitating staff training
  • Liaise and outreach to community partners and stakeholders
  • Keep accurate statistics and daily attendance records and submit reports as required
  • Ensure budget compliance
  • Purchase program supplies
  • Ensure all aspects of the physical space at various sites are in good working order and working with all partners to ensure the working functions of sites are maintained at all times 
  • Have experience working with budget
  • Have experience working with grant applications/grant writing
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Early Childhood Education Diploma or Degree (Social Work, Health/family studies) or other equivalent experience
  • Certificate in Adult Education or similar qualification
  • Experience in leadership/management 4 years minimum
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Ministry of Education licensing requirements and How Does Learning Happen
  • Experience supervising staff and providing team leadership for a large group of staff
  • Experience working with large groups of children and caregivers (5 years minimum)
  • Excellent knowledge of child development
  • Experience working with a diverse community; strong cross-cultural communication skills
  • Valid Driver’s License and access to a vehicle required
  • High Five certification is Required
  • Strong project coordination/management skills including budget management, outreach and presentation skills
  • Strong organization and time management skills; and ability to work on multiple projects at one time
  • Experience in conflict resolution and conflict management
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Demonstrated understanding of interagency sensitivities and political dynamics; experience working with a variety of stakeholders including residents, service providers
  • Computer knowledge and excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Second language an asset (Mandarin, Cantonese, Tamil)
  • Flexible to work evenings and Saturdays
  • A good understanding of trending data best practice implementation
  • A police criminal reference/vulnerable sector check clearance
  • Standard First Aid with infant and preschool CPR, and up-to-date immunizations are required and 2 step TB Test.

 

 

Work Conditions

  • Must be able to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year-round; may be exposed to heat, humidity or cold
  • Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, bending, kneeling, crouching or crawling, lifting 20 kg (44 lbs.), and supporting children
  • Interact with children, youth, family members, stakeholders, administration, staff and visitors.
  • Manual dexterity required to work in remote areas and satellite locations
  • Will be required to attend meetings and/or trainings at various affiliated sites.
