SCARBOROUGH CIVIC ACTION NETWORK (SCAN)

Community Animator (1 position)

 

$14.00/hr, 30 hours/week

12 week contract

Start date: June 11th, 2018

End Date: August 31st, 2018

Reports to Civic Projects & SCAN Coordinator

 

Agincourt Community Services Association (ACSA) is a non-profit, multi-service agency addressing the needs and empowering underserved communities in Scarborough to build a better tomorrow. The Scarborough Civic Action Network (SCAN) is a non-partisan Scarborough-wide network of agencies, community groups and individuals working together to support community-driven civic engagement throughout Scarborough around poverty reduction and to support the active involvement of marginalized communities and those most at risk of social exclusion in decision-making processes addressing poverty-related issues. 

 

SCAN is seeking to hire a Community Animator to support community engagement to ensure community workshops, and other related events are inclusive and representative of diverse communities and to help equip community members with the knowledge and skills to actively take part in civic engagement activities.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with development and implementation of effective community outreach strategies
  • Support implementation of SCAN workshops including assisting with translation and facilitation, administrative duties such as keeping attendance records, photocopying materials, setting up workshop, etc.
  • Build connections with diverse communities and stakeholders throughout Scarborough on an ongoing basis
  • Support planning of community civic events
  • Report regularly to SCAN Coordinator
  • Other duties as required by project goals

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience working or volunteering at a community-based organization in Scarborough
  • Working knowledge of good community engagement practices
  • Reliable, adaptive and good at building relationships with diverse communities
  • Ability to translate spoken and written English to Tamil, Arabic, Chinese, Bengali, Urdu, Farsi, Tagalog or Gujarati an asset
  • Must be a full time student in 2017-2018 school year and returning to school in the fall of 2018
