Position Type: Contract 8 weeks, 30 hours a week

Agincourt Community Services Association (ACSA) is a multiservice not for profit agency located in Scarborough. We are looking for a mature, energetic and knowledgeable individual to fill the Language Training Assistant position to assist our Online LINC staff/teacher in providing language instruction strategies to improve the newcomers’ English language skills.   This position will be working at our Newcomers’ Centre location at Dorset Park Community Hub. 

 

Job Description

  • Assist Language Teacher in preparing materials, lesson plans and activities for each level or group 
  • Assist in interactive sessions to learn English onsite at ACSA location and online
  • Assist in conducting online conversation activities with learners
  • Assist in observing, evaluating, and documenting learners’ work to determine progress
  • Assist Language Teacher in creating and updating  required reports
  • Network with other staff, attend and participate in agency functions
  • Enter data/client information in ACSA’s database
  • Provide administrative support to events (ie. Send invitations, flyers, mass mailings if required, post in websites, etc.)
  • Perform other duties as required

 

Qualifications

  • Youth between 17-30 years old
  • Must have been enrolled in the past school year (2017-2018) in High School, University or College and planning to return to school in September 2018
  • Excellent English language skills
  • Some experience in office/clerical work
  • Public speaking and group facilitation skills an asset; ability to relate to newcomers
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Computer literate and comfortable using online platform (ie. webinar, skype, etc.)
  • A positive attitude with creative and dynamic leadership skills
  • Must be able to speak one of the following languages ( 
  • Current police reference check is mandatory.
