Homeless Drop-In Program Assistant

Position Type: Contract 16 weeks, 35 hours a week

Pay rate: $14.00/hr

Agincourt Community Services Association (ACSA) is a multi service not-for-profit agency located in Scarborough. Our core programs include housing and outreach programs, food security programs, newcomer services, youth outreach and therapy programs, child and family programs, early years’ programs, computer access programs, and community engagement.


The ACSA South Drop-in operates five days a week including Sunday, providing food bank, hot lunches, basic needs, support and referrals.  


Position Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the day-to-day operation of Drop-in and Food Bank
  • Support the preparation of food, ensure daily washing, and disinfecting
  • Support a variety of tasks in food bank operation, including unloading food bank delivery trucks, organizing and storing food, and direct service to food bank clients
  • Dismantle cardboard boxes and dispose of cardboard and garbage
  • Perform intake for food bank clients and collect statistics
  • Maintain a clean and safe space; regular cleaning of kitchen
  • Support the kitchen garden program as needed
  • Engage respectfully with community residents and program participants, providing information and referrals
  • Work positively with community volunteers to accomplish tasks and goals
  • Ensure accurate daily documentation
  • Other related duties as required.



  • Youth between 15-30 years old
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
  • Sensitivity to the challenges of, and respect for, homeless and marginalized people
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to lift and move 25 pounds safely
  • Safe food handling Certificate
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively and professionally under pressure
  • Commitment to food security and relevant kitchen experience
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to work Sundays.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Valid Ontario G-class drivers’ license and clean drivers abstract is an asset
  •  Willingness and ability to be put on registration for agency vehicle and drive vehicle during shifts are assets
  • CPI, First Aid and CPR certification are assets
  • Valid Police Records Check.


Working Conditions

The position is located at 202 Markham Road, Scarborough with occasional travel to other sites as required.  The location is a unit in a strip mall and includes public space, shared offices and a kitchen.   The worker would be working in the kitchen and public spaces, with occasional office use.
