Contract Part-Time Position (up to 15 hours per week/Mon-Friday 2:45-5:45pm)

 Contract End date: June 28th, 2023

                                                                                      Salary: $17.25-$18.00 per hour[1]

Reports to: Site Supervisor, Child and Family Centre

 

 

Background

ACSA is a nonprofit, multi service agency at the heart of Agincourt addressing needs and empowering children, youth, newcomers, homeless, and otherwise underserved communities.  Our core programs include housing and outreach programs, food security programs, newcomer services, youth outreach and therapy programs, child and family programs, early years’ programs, computer access programs, and community engagement.

 

Summary of Job Functions

ACSA’s Child and Family Centre is currently seeking staff for our After-School Program. The After-School program runs from 2:45pm-5:45pm, 5 days a week, at 12 separate locations throughout the Steeles L’amoreaux and Dorset Park neighbourhoods. Reporting to the Site Supervisor, Child and Family, After School Lead Facilitators will be working with children ages 6-12 and focusing on physical activity, healthy eating, health and wellness, and cultural activities and homework support.  After School Lead Facilitators are responsible for planning and implementing creative and high-quality activities that support children’s developmental, emotional, cognitive and psycho-social needs.  The program can be in-person, online or hybrid model. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds or more with or without assistance.  Staff will also be preparing snacks for children in the program while ensuring housekeeping tasks are completed.

 

Duties include:

  • Responsible for implementing program planning, materials and content, and ensuring all programs are relevant to children (6-12 years) and compliant with funder and ACSA’s policies and practices
  • Ensuring the safety and well being of each program participant
  • Responsible for daily attendance records and for reviewing site specific safety protocols
  • Responsible for updating and maintaining the relevant Google Drive
  • Ensuring budget compliance and purchasing of program supplies
  • Pick up snack every week from the Child and Family Centre
  • Leading daily activities; including physical activity, snack time, mental health and wellbeing, homework support etc.
  • Using a positive framework when addressing behaviours and challenges
  • Working alongside additional staff (e.g. Restorative Justice Facilitators, Placement Students) and volunteers, while engaged in the program.
  • Leading in maintaining general housekeeping duties to keep a safe and clean environment for participants (Following the health and safety checklist provided as well as Covid-19 protocols)
  • Building positive relationships with program participants, parents/caregivers and TDSB/TCDSB staff
  • Respecting confidentiality of information received
  • Maintaining professional conduct at all times
  • Develop and maintain strong communication with reporting supervisor
  • Mandatory availability to attend weekly and or monthly meetings on weekdays
  • Perform other such duties as may be assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of/enrolled in a post-secondary child/youth related field such as Early Childhood Educator, Sport and Leisure, Child and Youth, Social Worker, Psychology, Sociology, Kinesiology
  • 3+ years of work or volunteer experience with children (6-12years of age)
  • Mandatory Police reference check / vulnerable sector screening
  • Mandatory CPR and First Aid training
  • Certified in High 5 Standards of Healthy Child Development
  • Experience with skill development, planning and leading sports activities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Supportive team player and team builder
  • Second language an asset (Mandarin, Tamil, Farsi, etc.)
  • Training in Behaviour Management
  • Training in Classroom Management
  • Certified in Food Handler Training is an asset
  • Valid Driver’s License and access to a vehicle is mandatory
  • Knowledge of the Scarborough communities is an asset.
