Youth Programs
Cooking Healthy Together for Youth
Continuing our commitment to fostering healthy development in children and youth, our healthy cooking program creates an opportunity for youth aged 11-19 years of age to learn the basics of healthy meal preparation. As a life skills lesson, this program focuses on assisting youth with the skills to identify healthy food choices as well as quick meals that meet health requirements.
Youth Drop- In
Held every Thursday after school, the Youth Drop-In Program aims at creating a safe space for youth to engage with each other and socialize with youth outreach workers. Homework help is offered to those who need it and there is an opportunity to become involved in the planning of community projects. It is important for ACSA's youth outreach workers to facilitate the education of Youth in sensitive issues. We support a dialogue on important issues relevant to youth today such as violence, sexism and positive body image.
Youth Consultations and Email Support
It is essential for the youth in our community to feel supported as they manage the many interconnected aspects of their life. One way this is facilitated is through actual presence in the community, and also through ongoing availability of consultation. Youth have the chance to discuss their feelings and concerns surrounding social, emotional and education issues by contact youth outreach workers by phone and email. All year round, youth have access to individual and confidential support surrounding healthy relationships, educational challenges and legal issues.
March and Summer Break Programs
During March and summer break, youth have the opportunity to involve themselves in art programs, community trips and youth focused educational programming. In the past, ACSA has partnered with other community agencies such as North West Scarborough Youth Center to coordinate and run summer camps throughout the summer. These camps are focused on involving youth in summer activities with thoroughly trained coordinators and counselors. Overall, summer camp programs are conducive of ACSA's mission to engage youth in pro social and safe activities- deterring violence and high risk activities, nourishing development and life skills.
