| Youth Outreach
Youth are supported to identify their own definition of success.
ACSA is committed to the youth in the Agincourt Community and our youth directed programming supports this commitment. We believe in the positive development framework- innately all youth are productive, pro social members of society. In this case, residence in identified high priority neighborhoods, with limited access and knowledge of community resources and services youth are faced with an increased chance of involvement in violence, substance abuse and mental health difficulties. It is our goal to empower youth through knowledge and experience- it is not enough to create solutions to problems when youth are not the creators of those solutions.
Overall, when youth are actively connected and supported to identify their own definition of success they are more likely to maintain those successes and reach for higher achievements.
Workshops and various community projects combined with cultural and ethnic learning opportunities are geared to provide youth with an increased sense of community awareness and engagement, safety and structure and an opportunity to engage with youth outreach workers and peer mentors.
ACSA hosts two youth outreach workers (YOW) funded by the Ontario Ministry of Children and Youth Services- an initiative to increase supports to youth in high risk neighbors funded by the Provincial Government. Our YOW's work exclusively in the Steeles L'Amoreaux community- directly involved with the youth, families and community support systems. ACSA YOW's can be contacted at any time by calling 416-321-6912 ext 246 or 247.
Achievements with youth will ultimately have an impact on family systems and communities. Youth can act as the link between community services and family members who face barriers accessing those services. In doing so, youth further their knowledge of community resources, enhance communication skills and facilitate their family's access to services. Neighborhoods benefit through the productive engagement of youth in positive and pro social activities. Communities will become more connected with individuals, families, groups and services that promote safety and healthy relationships.
