| Project H.E.A.L.
Description
Agincourt Community Services Association (ACSA) has been given the opportunity to lead a new initiative called Project H.E.A.L., which stands for healthy eating, active living. It is a fun and interactive 6 week workshop that provides valuable information about healthy food choices, nutrition, and physical activity. The objective of the program is to advocate the importance of integrating a balanced relationship between eating well and exercising regularly, while overcoming barriers that may prevent one from living the H.E.A.L. lifestyle. Such a lifestyle promotes:
- Every little bit counts- exercise doesn’t need to be strenuous for one to achieve benefits
- Healthier food choices- while taking many factors into consideration such as budgeting
- Reduction in health risks- obesity, chronic diseases, and those risks that arise from living a lifestyle that is not active and that does not meet nutrient needs.
- Everyone Benefits- men and women of all ages benefit from a moderate level of physical activity throughout the day
- Go at your own pace- encourage that there is no one standard that everyone should achieve. As long as one builds from the goals they set then they are progressing towards the ultimate goal of finding balance between eating well and exercising regularly.
This 6-week program not only provides individuals with a wealth of knowledge about the H.E.A.L. lifestyle, but it also allows community members to network; learning more about the community they live in while connecting with their fellow neighbours. This peer support enables the encouragement of lifestyle changes. To better accommodate newcomers, Project H.E.A.L. is delivered in various languages including English, Cantonese, Farsi, Mandarin and Tamil. The program also provides all attendees with information in regards to resources that are offered throughout the community. The attendees will also have the opportunity to experience different physical activities together and set achievable goals. Being active is very safe for most individuals; however, if any participants have any concern their physical capability prior to joining this program, we encourage consultation with their physician before registering with Project H.E.A.L.
With the completion of the program we hope all participants are able to both achieve and maintain Better Overall Health. In addition, we are optimistic that this program will build a healthier community.
We welcome the opportunity to build partnership with community members in order to strive in the successful delivery of Project H.E.A.L. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Vivien Chung or Sarpreet Khera at 416-321-6912 ext. 225.
Thank- you
Sincerely,
Team Project H.E.A.L
