Help build community relationships and pick fresh fruits and vegetables from our local farms.
Gleaning Trips/Fresh Food Markets
During the summer months, ACSA clients are invited to visit local farms and pick fresh fruits and vegetables free of charge. This fun activity not only promotes socialization and community relationships, but assists in food security. In operation from July to September, fresh food markets in our community are also an essential resource to obtain fresh fruits and vegetables at lower or comparable costs then neighborhood big chain supermarkets. ACSA supports the purchase of staple food supplies from local markets because it invests back into the community by supporting local farmers.
Drop-in Lunch Presentations at Timothy's Church
A new initiative, the drop in lunch presentation is designed to run during our homeless drop-in on Thursdays at St. Timothy's Church. Informal sessions on particular food items and nutrition related information are now hosted to support the needs of our clients. Topics range from learning about different cultural foods to looking at the four food groups in Canada's Food guide.
